Your Questions About Make Beats On Computer Software

Daniel asks…
Whats better to use when making a beat “Pricey Digital Keyboards or Computer Music Software like SONAR FL ETC?
Lets say I buy the best instrumental making software programs for my PC that is already on must of the high priced digital keyboards out there on the market. Is there really a difference when you end-up happening to connect a digital keyboard to a computer for advance input anyway? I feel a computer will always be more advance and up to date then a digital music keyboard also cheaper and I wouldn’t have to worry about a digital keyboard crashing on me. With a computer, I’ll basically just have to worry about viruses right?…..
I mean it seems to me, the reason why people only buy digital keyboards that have the same exact software as a computer is because there big in the music industry so they must have it for portable reasons such as traveling for tours, clubs or negotiating over selling a instrumental. I know some people who just by a pricey digital keyboard just cause they have the money to purchase one.

I have two Yamahas. One is a PSR3000 synthesiser keyboard and the other is a Yamaha Clavinova. With both of these instruments I can save my work to a memory chip or stick, and load it on to my computer, but I only do this if I want to create sound files to send to friends etc.
When doing it this way, my computer rarely crashes but often does so if I connect the instrument direct to my computer.
Having played pianos and keyboards all my life. I tend to feel that’s whilst the computer is very useful, both my keyboards are good enough as stand-alone instruments.

What kind of Dj software for the computer would be the best to start out on?
Me and a couple friends of mine are looking to put a group together be we arent sure which program to use. We are trying to go for a kind of laid back hip hop/Rock feel. Kind of a smooth rap feel. Influences like Flobots, Asher Roth, or kid cudi. Something to make beats like theirs. Thanks in advance.

You will need a good microphone for starters. That could set you back a bit to be honest or you could go to a local recording studio which would sadly also cost money.
But for a program, if you have a mac then use garage band – very good.
If not on mac audacity is probably the best free program otherwise you will have to fork out some cash.
But the microphone is a must

Sorry, didn’t read the whole question!
Buy an M-Audio oxygen and use Cubase/ProTools for the PC….. And either Logic or ProTools for OSX
If you install ReWire (comes with Reason, Cubase, and others) then it will sync all of those programs.
After that, I usually freeze tracks and stick them all in Cubase.
