Fl Studio (also called Fruity Loops) is great for doing beat, but NOT free. Only the demo is free. You can still work with the demo and save your beats to wav/mp3 before exiting the program, because you can’t save projects in the demo. Http://demo.flstudio.com

But in my opinion they are not even close to what FL Studio can do. I’ve been using the Producer Edition for years and it’s worth every penny.
